Loew’s Oriental – Brooklyn, NY.

I love old movie theaters, and when I travel, I generally take photos of any classic movie house, no matter how small or large, I may come across. For the Loew’s Oriental, I didn’t have to travel at all. I lived in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn for many years and the Oriental was one of the local theaters in the hood. The original theater, opened in 1927, had approximately 2,700 seats. In early 1977, the same year I took this photograph, the theater was twinned with over 1,000 seats in each theater. It was the beginning of the bland mulitplex era and the end for many classic theaters.
